If I am remembering correctly, this site was the first where I installed WordPress and went “live” with it. At the time, I didn’t know too much about WordPress themes, so I browsed around the many, many available through the built-in theme browser looking for one I liked.

There were two problems. First, there were an awful lot of cool themes to choose from, so it was a difficult choice. I wasn’t sure how I felt about the site looking like a billion other blog sites, either, so using a theme that looked cool probably meant that there would be no shortage of other sites already using it.

Eventually, I installed a few that I liked and decided to customize one of them. I figured once I knew what I was doing, I’d just go ahead and create an altogether new theme that was all mine. Well, I did the first half of that… I customized a theme, which means mostly that I changed some colors around here and there, but I never came back and created that unique theme for this site.

I started using WordPress for a variety of sites and got quite into creating custom themes and plugins, but for some reason I never came back to this site.  Most likely the back of my brain said, “it’s not at all bad looking with the theme it’s got, so why don’t we play World of Warcraft for awhile instead?”

Well I finally got around to it.  As I write this, I’m still tweaking a few things here and there, but I think it’s basically in place.

I am working on some spring cleaning projects. First of all I am STILL trying to overcome my basic laziness to clean and better organize my living space. I have made some progress with getting my photo studio cleared out enough to actually shoot in it, but it still has a way to go.

Of course a big part of my problem is that I simply have way too much crap, and also that I am often quite reluctant to part with it. I am not quite a hoarder in the sense of the crazy people you sometimes see on TV shows like CSI: Crime Scene Investigation or Law & Order, but some people might not think there’s a huge difference. However, unlike those kooks on the TV shows, as least I recognize that I have to get rid of some of this crap!

I am also trying to do some spring cleaning on the variety of websites that I host and maintain. One aspect of that in particular is trying to merge together some of the databases that the websites use. Many of my sites use a MySQL database and historically whenever I created a new site, I would create a new database to go along with it. Individually, they generally aren’t large databases and technically there’s no real reason why multiple websites can’t all maintain their data in the same database, but I just didn’t do it that way. However, recently I’ve been noticing that the few advantages of keeping things separately is outweighed by the fact that it’s just simply a pain in the behind to maintain them that way. So I am working on consolidating things together, at least to a certain degree.
